
In order to ensure an effective programme response, operations need to be strengthened in the affected region. UNICEF will be increasing the number of supply and logistics staff in Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Panama. In total, 20 colleagues will help reinforce UNICEF relief efforts on the ground. Seven are already in place or on their way. Twelve others have been identified and will be joining soon.
Summary of air shipments
On Saturday 23 January, two planes with UNICEF emergency supplies landed in Santo Domingo:
-Air France/KLM from Paris delivered 100 MT of supplies covering health, nutrition, and water and sanitation. This flight was provided to UNICEF with no commercial mark up.
-British Airways from Billund, Denmark delivered 662 Early Childhood Development kits. This was the second donated airlift from Denmark by British Airways.
Today Monday 25 January, UPS flight carrying 9.15 MT of jerrycans from Paris landed in Santo Domingo. The flight was a donation from UPS.
On Wednesday, 27 January, Air France/KLM will leave Amsterdam with 100 MT of health, nutrition, and water and sanitation supplies. The plane will arrive in Santo Domingo on 28 January. The airline is not applying a commercial mark up for this service.
To be confirmed for Wednesday, 27 January, Cathay Pacific will leave Shanghai with 52 MT of tents (108 x 72sq m). The plane is expected to arrive in Miami on 28 January. The flight is a donation from Cathay Pacific.
On Friday, 29 January, British Airways will carry 100MT of hygiene kits from Madrid to Santo Domingo. The flight has been provided to UNICEF with no commercial mark up.
